Mayor Adams announced Monday that New York State will provide a fresh $4 million infusion for a grant program that assists city homeowners in building unorthodox types of housing units on their homes.

The additional investment will only fund the development of 20 auxiliary dwelling units (ADUs). The program is part of the mayor’s “City of Yes” plan, which proposes a number of development legislation reforms to promote housing construction.

Adams and his aides stated in a press conference that every little bit helps, as his government works to alleviate severe housing shortages across the five boroughs.
